Online forensics course at Sechenov

Online forensics course at Sechenov Leading scientists from Sechenov University and the University of Verona will talk about capillary electrophoresis and its application in forensics.

The Sechenov International Online School (SIOS) is starting the Advanced School of Forensic Capillary Electrophoresis. The course will consist of online chats, questions to the speakers, and discussions. The sessions are scheduled to take place every Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 (MST, GMT+3) until 4 December 2020.

This English-language cycle of talks is organised by Sechenov University in cooperation with the University of Verona (Italy). The number of the attendees is limited so please register online at https://sios2020.ru/forensic. Here you can also find the extended programme.

The online sessions will include contributions from a number of speakers: Prof Franco Tagliaro (MD) from the Department of Medicine (University of Verona) and the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology (Sechenov University); Dr Giacomo Musile (PhD) and Prof Federica Bortolotti (MD) from the Department of Diagnostics and Public Health (University of Verona); Prof Rossella Gottardo (PhD) and Dr Nadia Maria Porpiglia (PhD) from the Forensic Medicine Unit (University of Verona).

The participants will learn about the use of capillary electrophoresis in forensics. This analytical method is well-established, flexible, and has a broad spectrum of application. The Advanced School of Forensic Capillary Electrophoresis will give the participants basic knowledge and cutting-edge information about the technique. The attendees will experience a virtual visit to a forensic lab and learn the theory of capillary electrophoresis. The course will inform about various applications such as assessment of chronic alcohol or drug abuse, quantification of potassium ions in post-mortem examinations, analysis of gunshot residues, and more.
