Baku Branch graduates explore flagship Russian medical institutions The visit of young Baku specialists was initiated by the Ministries of Health of Russia and Azerbaijan. Sechenov University organized a five-day program that included visits to leading Moscow hospitals, flagship clinics, and research laboratories of the First Moscow State Medical University.

The main goal was to showcase the opportunities and achievements of Russian medicine to young specialists from the first foreign branch of Sechenov University, demonstrating how innovative technologies are applied in clinical practice.

“Graduates of the Baku Branch are the ones who will shape modern healthcare in Azerbaijan,” said Mikhail Brovko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs. “This visit is a practical step in our strategy to build a global alumni community. We are open to further interaction and expect to see them among our residents, postgraduates, and staff.”

In 2026, the branch graduated 123 specialists, 39 with honors. Fifteen top students and young researchers came for the internship.

The program covered a wide range of medical centers: Botkin Hospital, Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, Vishnevsky National Medical Research Center of Surgery, Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology, Rogachev National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, and Shumakov National Medical Research Center of Transplantology. Participants also visited the Biomedical Science and Technology Park and University Clinical Hospital No. 1 of the Sechenov University Clinical Center for Health Sciences.

The visit included a historical module at the Museum of the History of Medicine and a Kremlin tour, as well as informal meetings with young Sechenov scientists to discuss joint research and exchange experiences.

Graduates shared their impressions. Nisakhanym Safarova, who plans to specialize in arrhythmology, found the visit to the Arrhythmology Center at Vishnevsky Center especially inspiring. Orkhan Bagirov, interested in neurosurgery, appreciated the modern equipment and expressed a desire to participate in clinical trials and laboratory work. Kamilla Adieva, a future ophthalmologist, hopes to intern at the Moscow City Ophthalmological Center at Botkin Hospital. Vugar Niftaliev confirmed his intention to pursue advanced training and research in Russia, focusing on neurosurgery.

The visit strengthened the scientific and cultural bridge between Azerbaijan and Russia, reaffirming Sechenov University’s commitment to international cooperation in education, medicine, and science.
