Bridge between people and cultures: InteRussia internship for foreign doctors held at Sechenov University
A 13‑day internship at Sechenov University brought together 15 young specialists from Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Serbia, and Turkmenistan.
The InteRussia programme in Medicine is implemented by the International Affairs Agency (ANO “Mezhdunarodniki”) together with Sechenov University and the Gorchakov Fund, with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
"Sechenov University is the only medical university that hosts Gorchakov Fund internships. We are always open to international cooperation and strive to create opportunities for professional dialogue among doctors from different countries. InteRussia is a vivid example of how medicine without borders becomes a bridge between people and cultures. We view such internships not just as knowledge exchange, but as an important tool of people's diplomacy. When doctors communicate directly, share experience and learn from each other, it builds trust and mutual understanding – the foundation of long‑term international relations," said Mikhail Brovko, Vice‑Rector for International Affairs at Sechenov University.
This year’s internship covered six tracks:
- Medical Engineering;
- Digital Medicine, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence;
- Radiology;
- Pulmonology;
- Rehabilitation;
- Occupational Pathology.
"Returning home, the 2026 internship participants took with them not only new knowledge, but also new friends, prospects for long‑term professional cooperation, and the opportunity to exchange experience with colleagues from different countries," noted Lyana Dymova, Coordinator of Academic Programmes at the Gorchakov Fund. She added that the Russian side is no less interested than its foreign partners in learning about clinical practices and unique approaches to healthcare organisation.
Over nearly two weeks, the foreign doctors trained in clinics, research laboratories and educational centres of Sechenov University, and also got acquainted with the University's structure and key educational areas.
"Participating in InteRussia has been an incredible experience – the internship was organised at the highest international level," shared Aijemal Hemraeva, who trained at the Department of Pulmonology. "The programme was flawless from A to Z. We received exceptional support on all levels – professional and personal. I was deeply impressed by the high standards of the Russian medical school. Observing the absolute precision and thoroughness of patient diagnostics was truly amazing!"
