Sechenov University plans to expand academic cooperation with University of Colombo

Sechenov University plans to expand academic cooperation with University of Colombo As part of a delegation led by the Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Sechenov University Rector Petr Glybochko made a working visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The Russian delegation toured the National Hospital and learned about the country’s emergency medical care system. This meeting was also held with the leadership of the University of Colombo — one of the oldest medical universities of Sri Lanka.

Petr Glybochko noted that Sri Lankan colleagues are ready to develop joint postgraduate programs in areas prioritized by Sri Lanka’s healthcare system.

“During today’s meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, we discussed key areas of academic cooperation — first and foremost, the recognition of Sechenov University diplomas in Sri Lanka. Sechenov University is consistently expanding educational programs for students from Sri Lanka and intends to deepen academic collaboration with the University of Colombo. I am confident that this visit has laid a solid foundation for long‑term partnership,” said Petr Glybochko.

The health ministers of Russia and Sri Lanka also discussed bilateral cooperation in medical education and science. They agreed to promptly draft a memorandum of understanding between the two ministries to enhance joint efforts.

“Sri Lanka’s Health Minister expressed interest in establishing bilateral relations and supporting cooperation in medical products and education. The meeting resulted in concrete directions for joint work,” Mikhail Murashko said following his talks with Nalinda Jayatissa.

Sechenov University currently has more than 5,500 international students, many of them from Sri Lanka. Thanks to the University’s direct accreditation in Sri Lanka, graduates from the country can complete their certification at Sechenov’s Accreditation and Simulation Center without needing additional qualification confirmation back home.
