Sechenov University in THE Emerging Economies Rankings

Times Higher Education has released the latest edition of its THE Emerging Economies University Rankings. For 2022, Sechenov University has been ranked on positions 251–300, which is a major improvement since last year (351–400).

The 2022 rankings include 698 universities, while the previous 2021 edition had only 606 entries.

The currently listed universities represent 50 countries or territories which are classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as ‘advanced emerging’, ‘secondary emerging’, or ‘frontier’.

The Emerging Economies University Rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, however the criteria have different weightings. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching — the learning environment (30%); research — volume, income, and reputation (30%); citations — research influence (20%); international outlook — staff, students, and research (10%); industry income — knowledge transfer (10%).

Overall, Russia is extremely successful in the Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022. Russian entries are among the top 10 of the table, and the country now has the third-highest number (60) of universities on the list — behind only China and India but ahead of Brazil. Russia is now home to the joint second (with India) highest number of institutions (17) in the top 200.

The scores of Russian universities have risen across every metric, but especially in international outlook, research, and working with industry.

China continues to dominate in the rankings — with 51 universities in the top 200, including all top 5 positions.

Apart from the countries mentioned above, the Emerging Economies University Rankings include such entries as Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, Chile, Indonesia, Philippines, Romania, United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, North Macedonia, Peru, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Vietnam.
