The World Photonics European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO) 2021 took place in Munich on 20–24 June. It was an online event.

The Department of Histology, Cytology, and Embryology at Sklifosovsky Institute of Clinical Medicine (Sechenov University) had a major presence at the conference — staff members and students from the Department’s scientific club took part in organising the event and presented their key findings. Prof S.L. Kuznetsov, Head of the Department, and Dr G.A. Piavchenko, Senior Lecturer, delivered a talk titled ‘Dynamics of Cerebral Cortex Blood Flow and Tissue Abnormalities Induced by Acute Respiratory Disorders’. A.V. Grechina, a 5th-year student at the Institute of Clinical Medicine and a member of the Histo-Photonics scientific club, spoke about ‘Digital Histo-Biophotonics: Embossed Topographic Depolarisation Mapping of Tissue Samples’, a project supervised by Prof T.V. Boronikhina, Professor at the Department of Histology, Cytology, and Embryology. Prof I. Meglinski, Professor at the Department, was a member of the programme committee of the conference.
