The purpose of our study was to assess the efficiency of toothpaste 'Intensive strengthening of supersensitive teeth with nano-GAP' INNOVA and the suspension 'Liquid Enamel' INNOVA on the sensitivity of teeth with gingival recession. We examined 40 people aged 20-25 years. Each group consisted of 20 people: 10 women, 10 men. The first group (observations) used the paste and the suspension for 14 days, and the second group (comparisons) cleaned teeth only with a brush without a paste. Schiff aerial test was performed to assess the rate of hypersensitivity. As a result of the study, it was found that the combination of paste and liquid suspension with nano-hydroxyapatite for 14 days effectively reduced the hypersensitivity of the teeth with gingival recession that was shown by a statistically significant decrease in the Schiff index in the observation group. Thus, this combination is the method of choice in the treatment of hyperesthesia and can be used as an alternative substitute therapy.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: the analysis of a specific and strains drift of Candida in HIV/AIDS patients with oropharyngeal candidiasis and the analysis of Candida sensitivity dynamics to reference antimycotic drugs. The study comprised 49 HIV-infected patients aged 20-69 years. The study revealed candidiasis treatment provides specific and strains drift of Candida. Eradication of fluconazole sensitive C. albicans leads to growth of more resistant strains (C. glabratae, krusei, tropicalis) thus lowering antimycotic therapy efficacy. The efficacy improvement requires selective approach to candidiasis treatment with azol agents.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the duration of training on the use of personal respiratory protective equipment on indices of pulmonary gas exchange. Simulation of conditions for the use of personal respiratory protective equipment was carried out at the inspiratory resistance of 40, 60, 70 and 80% Pmmax. The study included 38 healthy male subjects aged 20 to 36 years. According to the results of the study, under the use of personal protective equipment for the respiratory system, preliminary training was shown to be essential. In the subjects without preliminary training, the use of personal protective equipment was followed by a weak change in the nature of the respiratory pattern. After the preliminary training subjects had an adaptive rearrangement of the respiratory pattern, consisted of the decline in breathing movements as the respiratory resistance increased. Preliminary training to the exposure of additional resistance to breathing, altered pulmonary gas exchange and acid-base state of blood. The trained subjects had higher pCO2 blood values and lower values of pO2. They showed a greater deficit of buffer bases of plasma compared to untrained ones. This fact testified the preliminary training for the use of personal respiratory protective equipment (long-term adaptation) changed the gas composition and acid-base state of the blood to be a more economical mode of the discharge of buffer systems. On the basis of the data obtained, the preliminary training for increased respiratory resistance was suggested to be advisable before the using personal respiratory protective equipment.

The purpose of the study was to present data on polymixin-based antibiotics with activity against infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, such as Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Material and methods. The review includes data from clinical as well as in vitro studies for the period 1998–2017. The search for relevant sources was carried out in the Medline, Cochrane Library, Elibrary and other databases. Results. The analysis of the data showed the presence of synergism and additive activity of polymyxin in combination with carbapenems, rifampicin and azithromycin. However, experimental data showed no direct positive correlation between combination of polymyxim and azithromycin/ rifampicin. In clinical studies, in hospital-acquired pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia, the clinical response rate of polymyxin B combined with other antibiotics ranged from 38 % to 88 %. High nephro- and neurotoxicity of polymyxin observed in previous studies can be explained by a lack of understanding of its toxicodynamics or the use of an incorrect dose. Conclusion. Polymyxin B in combination with other antibiotics is a promising treatment against infectious complications caused by multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

A systematic review substantiates the significance of mutual influence and interaction between infection pathogens, humoral and cell-mediated innate immunity that condition triggering or termination of infectious process, its prodromal period, severity of clinical manifestations and outcomes of urogenital infections in pregnant women. The determining factor is the result of TLRs response to microbial patterns taking into account the preparedness and state of innate immune receptors. The latter might ensure a higher anti-infection resistance to the pathogen up to termination of disease, or to promote the development of infectious process with marked inflammatory reaction, or to make the infectious process chronic up to damaging the tissue cells of the macroorganism. The understanding of the mechanisms of natural anti-infectious resistance and enhanced sensitivity and susceptibility to infectious agents has been objectified. TLRs act as molecular genetic markers of anti-infection resistance of the body and its state of health.

© 2018 Bentham Science Publishers. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours are the most common mesenchymal tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. Despite similar mutation pattern of activating mutations in KIT or PDGFRA receptors in 85% of cases, they demonstrate significantly heterogeneous clinical behaviour and pathological characteristics. This heterogeneity opens the question of the role of other factors and mechanisms of regulation in the development of GIST. Additional mutations in downstream effectors of GIST related signalling pathways or aberrant expression of non-coding RNAs may be additional contributing factors, the latter being increasingly recognized in carcinogenesis in general. Recently, a substantial progress has been achieved in understanding the functional roles of lncRNAs in GIST suggesting their potential employment as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in GIST. Moreover, some miRNAs have recently been found to be able to sensitize cells to imatinib, which could be an attractive option to overcome the resistance to the drug, which hampers the efficacy of GIST treatment. Therefore, the advantage can be taken of both coding and non-coding parts of the genome in order to significantly improve prognostication and help find personalized therapy for patients, depending on a subtype of GIST and personal characteristics.

© 2018 Dynasty Publishing House. All rights reserved. The systematic review provides a justification for the value of innate immunity as an initial, necessary and determinant stage in the development of adaptive immunity. The participation of TLRs as a leading component of PRRs-system in maintaining natural congenital anti-infection resistance and homeostasis of the organism, in launching and dynamics of development of adaptive immunity to pathogens of infectious and non-infectious genesis was studied in detail. The importance of the influence of these pathogens on the homeostasis of the organism, on the formation of disturbances in anti-infective resistance at the organism and local levels, revealing new pathophysiological and immunological pathogenetic mechanisms of the development of these pathological processes is established. The colossal gap between fundamental studies of the biology and morphology of microorganisms and clinical studies of the diseases they cause is shortening. In an accessible form, explanations are provided for the absence of symptoms, the possibility of atypical manifestations, and the asymptomatic course of infection. There are new wide opportunities to improve and enhance the information content and personalization methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention, as well as the creation of pharmaceuticals that act detrimental to all forms of cycle of development of pathogens, and new immunomodulatory drugs for the most effective treatment and prevention of diseases.

© 2018 by the authors. Exosomes are small vesicles which are produced by the cells and released into the surrounding space. They can transfer biomolecules into recipient cells. The main goal of the work was to study the exosome involvement in the cell transfer of hormonal resistance. The experiments were performed on in vitro cultured estrogen-dependent MCF-7 breast cancer cells and MCF-7 sublines resistant to SERM tamoxifen and/or biguanide metformin, which exerts its anti-proliferative effect, at least in a part, via the suppression of estrogen machinery. The exosomes were purified by differential ultracentrifugation, cell response to tamoxifen was determined by MTT test, and the level and activity of signaling proteins were determined by Western blot and reporter analysis. We found that the treatment of the parent MCF-7 cells with exosomes from the resistant cells within 14 days lead to the partial resistance of the MCF-7 cells to antiestrogen drugs. The primary resistant cells and the cells with the exosome-induced resistance were characterized with these common features: decrease in ERα activity and parallel activation of Akt and AP-1, NF-κB, and SNAIL1 transcriptional factors. In general, we evaluate the established results as the evidence of the possible exosome involvement in the transferring of the hormone/metformin resistance in breast cancer cells.

© 2018, Dynasty Publishing House. All rights reserved. Objective: to evaluate the possibility of creating a human model of acute Helicobacter pylori infection in healthy volunteers after infecting them with a mutant rifampicin-resistant strain of H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ), to obtain evidence of H. pylori survival and invasion into the gastric mucosa, describe the symptoms, and assess the efficacy of H. pylori eradication therapy with Stimbifid plus. Materials and methods. In our experiments, we used conventional white mice of both genders weighing 18–20 g. The concentration of bifidobacteria, lactobacilli, and Escherichia (CFU) in animal faeces was determined by inoculating tenfold dilutions of biomaterial onto solid media and further counting of bacterial colonies grown after the incubation period. Microorganisms were cultivated in an anaerobic incubator and then identified by morphological evaluation and using biochemical identification kits. We created a murine model of H. pylori infection by oral administration of H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ) suspensions to immunocompromised mice that had earlier undergone intramuscular administration of dexamethasone. For a human model of H. pylori infection, we selected healthy male volunteers. They took suspensions of H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ) isolates in isotonic sodium chloride solution. Fecal specimens were collected from volunteers on daily basis during the entire follow-up period and then 2 weeks and 1 month after treatment completion. Fecal suspensions in isotonic sodium chloride solution were inoculated onto the selective hemin-containing solid media with rifampicin at a concentration of 160 µg·mL –1 . The results of this experiment (H. pylori colony count) were used to evaluate the efficacy of H. pylori eradication therapy with Stimbifid plus. Results. Both in vitro experiments and murine models demonstrated high anti-H. pylori activity of Stimbifid plus and its ingredients, restoration of the gastric microbiota, restoration of gastric colonization resistance, and eradication of H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ). Self-infection with H. pylori KM-11 (RifR) caused acute infection in volunteers. The disease manifested with mild ailment, epigastric discomfort, belching, increased stool frequency, and changes in the color of stool. The detection of H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ) in the faeces of volunteers and isolation of pure cultures prior to treatment initiation indicated bacterial adhesion to gastric mucosa and survival of microorganisms. Treatment with Stimbifid plus caused gradual decrease in the number of bacteria isolated from feces and their complete elimination by day 11 of therapy. All fecal specimens collected 2 weeks and 1 month after therapy completion from volunteers were negative for H. pylori KM-11 (Rif R ). None of the study participants required in-patient treatment. Conclusion. The results of our experiments obtained in both murine and human models of H. pylori infection will be used for more detailed assessment of this pathological process, clinical manifestations, impact of H. pylori virulence factors on the host, choosing new methods for the prevention and treatment of chronic gastritis caused by H. pylori, and monitoring the efficacy of eradication therapy.
