Research teams of Sechenov University have found out a new way to diagnose cancer diseases using a single drop of blood.
A simple blood test determines a cancer disease at an early stages. It is really a breakthrough achievement because almost half of patients learn about a tumor even when metastasis has already occurred.
An artificial intelligence assists in identifying patients with cancer and healthy volunteers. It takes into account not only tumor markers, but also 18 blood indicators. This test diagnoses the most common cancer diseases, such as lung carcinoma, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and bladder cancer.
"We use Inflammatory markers, tumor markers, homeostasis markers, and blood clotting markers, so it is more likely that patients who test positive truly have a disease,"- explained Prof. Marina Sekacheva, Vice-rector for Research at Sechenov University.
The Russian oncologists became the first in the world who have successfully put medical statistics in practice by using patient data.
