The 10th International Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomy was  hosted by Sechenov University

The 10th international Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomy (ISCAA 2018) was held at the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of Sechenov University on September 13-15, 2018. More than 200 participants from 23 countries in Europe, Asia and America attended the event.


Dr. Sergey Dydykin, head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, told the participants about the 260-year history of Sechenov University, its best physicians and scientists.
Prof. Ilya Kagan, the oldest clinical anatomist (Orenburg Medical University, Russia) presented modern trends in development of clinical anatomy in the XXI century.
Great interest was caused by the presentation of Prof. Peter Tsarkov, head of the Department of Surgery of Sechenov University, who told about the differences in approaches of anatomists and colorectal surgeons, to anatomical justification of surgical interventions in colorectal surgery.


The opening ceremony of the Symposium was completed by a lecture of Prof. Friedrich Paulsen (Germany), who has introduced current trends in teaching anatomy and histology in present and future.
During three Symposium days, participants were able to take part in poster sections, to get acquainted with the scientific program which included 18 lectures and 82 reports.
The abstracts selected by the Program Committee are published in a special issue of the "Morphology" Journal.
The Live surgery master class was conducted before the Symposium. Its program included online broadcasting of the inguinal hernia surgery (Lichtenstein technique) conducted by Professor Protasov; report on Topical issues of modern hernia repair techniques conducted by Professor Matveeva; and live-streaming of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair surgery, conducted by Professor Matveev.
Such clinical master classes within the framework of the Symposium have already become a tradition, which is planned to continue at ISCAA 2019 in Madrid.
