Seminar for the University applicants-2018 in Sri-Lanka
7 мая 2018

Sechenov University has always been very popular among Sri Lankan students. However, in recent years only a few Sri Lankan students have come to study at our University. To attract talented students of this island state, where the profession of the doctor is the most prestigious, the Center for International Education of Sechenov University presented its educational programs at a seminar for applicants and their parents held at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Colombo on April 26, 2018.
The presentation was organized with the active participation and support of the Director of the Center, Ms. Anastasia Khokhlova, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Sri Lanka, and Dr. Saman Virasinha, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russia in 2015-2018, the graduate of Sechenov University.

Russian medical education was represented by I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. The invited graduates of our universities from Sri Lanka gave warm welcoming speech about the years of their studies in Moscow and demonstrated by their examples the role of quality education in the further professional career. Prof. Oleg Glazachev, director of the Centre for International Education, visited the Medical Council of Sri Lanka before the seminar. Sechenov University is the only one of the Russian universities accredited by the council, which is an important argument for applicants while choosing a foreign university.

Dr. Saman Herat, the Director of the Council, confirmed the positive decision on accreditation of the educational program "Dentistry", conducted by members of the Medical Council of Sri Lanka in November 2017 and presented the relevant documents.

The prospects for cooperation in attracting new students were discussed at the meeting with Ms. Anastasia Khokhlova and the specialists of the Russian Center for Science and Culture. The sides also noted that it is necessary to intensify the preparation of students to enter the University through Russian language courses, and to conduct a full-time round of the Sechenov Olympiad in Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Rossotrudnichestvo, an autonomous Russian federal government agency under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
