Sechenov University surgeons successfully performed robot-assisted thyroid surgery with intraoperative neuromonitoring: unprecedented case in the Russian practice

The surgeons from the Sechenov University’s Clinic of Oncology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Radiology successfully performed the first in Russia robot-assisted thyroid surgery with intraoperative neuromonitoring.

"The surgery was carried out with assistance of the da Vinci surgical system. The surgical incision involved the patient’s ear area along the hairline. Such intervention prevents surgical scars; allows to conduct vagus nerve electrodes, and to perform real-time monitoring during recurrent laryngeal nerve dissection. It shortens surgery duration and gives confidence to the surgeon, because there is no need to interrupt organ mobilization and evaluate different functions of these nerves. It is under control during the whole surgery,"- says Dr. Igor Reshetov, Director of the Clinic of Oncology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Radiology.
