Innovative educational programs: international training course "Essential skills in medical education"

Sechenov University completed an international training course "Basic skills in medical education (ESME-Essential skills in medical education)" on October 5-8, 2018. The course was organized by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) and the International Institute of Professional Development of Sechenov University. Professor Trevor Gibbs, AMEE Development Officer, has shared basic principles and modern skills in medical education with the Sechenov University’s faculty members, teaching staff and leadership of 15 Russian medical universities. The participants were selected by students themselves by conducting a survey among the students of all faculties. Professor Gibbs focused on educational process, preparation of curriculum materials, and importance of the lecturer in the learning procedure. 
The participants discussed student approaches to education, types of active learning techniques, feedback necessity, introduced basic methods and principles of knowledge assessment focused on integration of evaluation procedures into educational process. 

"This course is necessary for modernization of the educational system in Russia. Such skills became necessary for improving the quality of education," told Mr. Evgeny Mashkovsky, Director of the AMEE Representative Office in Russia. 

The next course on basic skills in medical education is planned to be held in 2019.
