In February 2019, 48 young specialists became graduates of the continuing education programme “An interpreter in the field of professional communication” at the Sechenov University’s Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication.

The necessity for opening an educational programme in linguistics at medical university is associated with growing need for professionals with excellent knowledge of English language, and specific skills of medical interpreters. A chance to learn a foreign language gives an opportunity to improve professional competences, as for instance, to work with any foreign language materials or to participate in international scientific events.

"In order to improve intercultural communication in the professional field, it is necessary to expand linguistic frameworks of physicians. A medical interpreter is a physician who has received theoretical and practical linguistic training," - notes Prof. Irina Markovina, Director of the Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, the program manager.
