bg1_ds.jpg2019 is the 150th anniversary since the Russian chemist Dmitry Mendeleev, discovered the Periodic System and has been proclaimed the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements” (IYPT 2019). The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the most significant achievements in science, capturing the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics and biology.

The initiative for IYPT2019 is supported by The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in partnership with the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), European Association for Chemical and Molecular Science (EuCheMS), the International Council for Science (ICSU), International Astronomical Union (IAU), and the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPS). It was submitted by numerous organizations from over 50 countries around the world.
A festive opening ceremony of the International Year of the Mendeleev's Periodic Table of Chemical Elements was held in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters on January 29, 2019. Mr. Roman Terekhov, phD student of Sechenov University (Department of Chemistry of the Institute of Pharmacy) became one of the Russian representatives at the event.
The IYPT2019 opening ceremony was held at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow on February 6, 2019. It was coincided with the Russian Science Day and birthday of Dmitry Mendeleev (February 8).  The Russian ceremony has marked the start of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.  The official organizer of the IYPT2019 opening ceremonies in Paris and Moscow is the Russian Science Festival NAUKA 0+.
In 2019, more than 500 scientific and educational events dedicated to the 150th anniversary will be held in Russia, France, Spain and Japan. It is aimed at attracting students and young people to the Russian science and its achievements.

Sechenov University, as the University of Life Sciences, traditionally pays a great attention to its educational programs in fundamental sciences. It helps in developing professional competencies of the young medics. Taking into account importance of fundamental research, last year Sechenov University introduced some new educational programs, such as Mechanics & Mathematical Modeling, Information Systems and Technologies, Materials Science and Technology and Nanomaterials.
