Sechenov University celebrates Chinese New Year
The Cultural Centre of Sechenov University was filled with a festive atmosphere: Chinese opera, folk songs, and dance performances in national costumes — including "Spring Ode" in Hanfu (traditional Han Chinese clothing) and "Bamboo Shadows and Glimmers of Light Welcoming Spring".
This is how international students celebrated the traditional Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, which marks the beginning of the new year according to the lunar calendar.
The celebration went beyond the concert; in the lobbies, students enjoyed a multitude of activities, from painting in the traditional Chinese Guohua style to making colourful lanterns.
According to Mikhail Brovko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, cooperation between Sechenov University and China is built on mutual respect, which annually strengthens the foundation for a long-term partnership in the field of medical education and science. Chinese students make a significant contribution to the development of their alma mater and to strengthening humanitarian ties between the two countries.
Zhao Chunlu, Advisor at the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy, noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of Russia and China, the first Year of Chinese-Russian Education will be held in 2026–2027, marking a new stage in the development of educational partnership.
"For me, the Spring Festival is a bridge that connects the past and the future and unites the hearts of young people in China and Russia. May the friendship with Russian mentors and friends be as indomitable and enduring as the Yangtze and Volga rivers! From the bottom of my heart, I thank the leadership and teachers of Sechenov University! Thanks to your support, we have found a place where our dreams begin," shared Zhang Xinliang, a 3rd-year postgraduate student at the IME, Sechenov University, and Chairman of the Chinese Students' Association at Sechenov University.
