World Diabetes Day at the First MSMU

Thirteen years ago, the World Health Organization and the International Diabetes Federation established World Diabetes Day. On November 14, 2014 as a part of the events dedicated to the day, on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Dean’s Office for international students and the Azerbaijan Youth Union of Russia (AMOR) organized a charity action at the Chair of Endocrinology and the Children Endocrinology Department of the University Pediatrics Hospital.

Opening the event, the head of the Department of Endocrinology, Professor V. Fadeyev in his speech noted that annual World Diabetes Days are devoted to a particular theme related to the disease. The years 2014-2016 are addressed to healthy lifestyle and diabetes.

An interesting scientific presentation on the acute medical-social problem was made by Dr. Samir Aliyev. He spoke on the problem of diabetes in children, emphasizing the growing number of patients with diabetes mellitus type 1, which is called "Diabetes of the young." Dr. Aliyev also noted the importance of healthy lifestyle in the fight against the disease.

Especially warm atmosphere prevailed in the Children Endocrinology Department, where students of our University together with the head of the Department Dr. A.Vitebskaya explained to young patients in a playful way the importance of self-monitoring of diabetes. After the “serious part” of meeting, children enthusiastically participated with their new friends in various competitions and games.

On behalf of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva organizers of the event donated the medical institution necessary appliances and gifts to the children. Heads of the Endocrinology chair and the Children Endocrinology Department expressed gratitude to the President of the AMOR Leyla Aliyeva, the Dean’ Office and students who participated in this worthy event.
