Sechenov University hosted the II International Academic Conference on Nordic Walking in Medical Rehabilitation and Health Technologies on March 24, 2018. The event was associated with the 50th anniversary of the Department of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. The Conference brought together the representatives from several countries: Russia, Italy, Finland, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

The scientific program of the Conference included reports on both theoretical and practical issues.

Prof. Evgeny Achkasov told about the history of the Department and its achievements in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He paid special attention to the development of Nordic Walking as a form of medical rehabilitation. Dr. Kristina Volodina shared the results of the experiment carried out at the Center for Medical Rehabilitation of Sechenov University, which allowed to analyze the biomechanics of the Nordic Walking method.

Some foreign experts were also invited to attend the Conference:
-Mr. Pino Dalassega (Italy), President of the Italian Federation for Nordic walking;
-Mr. Marco Kantanevo (Finland), one of the founders of Nordic walking method, head of the World original Nordic Walking Federation (ONWF)

It's worth noting that the Italian Federation for Nordic walking and Sechenov University have decided to continue cooperation in joint publications, preparation of Nordic walking guidebook and participation in sports events.
