Sechenov University researchers have suggested solution to the main problem in Transplantology

Sechenov University researchers have suggested solution to the main problem in Transplantology that is rejection of organs artificially grown by tissue engineering methods. They have created a unique gel based on fibrin, which may be taken directly from a patient's blood. It may form a capillary network inside a transplanted artificial organ or tissue-engineered structure, which solves two important problems that lead to rejection. So, all necessary nutrients are constantly delivered to cells, while unnecessary toxins and carbon dioxide are removed. Such modified fibrin gel creates the most favorable microenvironment for the cells that begin to form an extensive network of tubes.  


"We create conditions for cells which are close to those inside a human body. Cells perceive signals from outside, which allows to form vessels. In the future it will help to form complex large organs and tissues in the future avoiding rejection as they will receive full nutrition and will be released from toxic substances."- told Dr. Anastasia Shpichka, senior associate of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine of the Science & Technology Park for Biomedicine of Sechenov University. 


The results of the research are published in such international scientific journals as Biomedical Materials, BioNanoMat etc.
