Meeting with the Dean for International Students

On February 17, 2015 at the initiative of the Dean’s Office for International Students and the International Students Scientific Association (ISSA) of the I.M. Sechenov First MSMU, was held the “Meeting with Dean”, in which Prof. Oleg S. Glazachev met with the staffs and students in discussing the questions and recommendations of international students as well as the future plans and objectives. The results of International Student Survey 2014 were also revealed during the meeting. Among the invited guests were Ms. Fauzana Abdul Muhi fr om the Malaysia Embassy and Mr. Syed Saifuddin bin Syed Ahmad from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA, Malaysia).

The meeting was opened by the speech of the Dean himself that was followed by the award ceremony wh ere international students that performed excellently in academic studies and sports were awarded with “Acknowledgement Notes” (Blagodarnostj) by the University. This year, the recipients were from different countries such as Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Ghana, Malaysia, Sierra Leone and Uzbekistan. Later on the stage was given to Mr. Syed Saifuddin. In his speech he urged international students, especially those sponsored by MARA, to continue in delivering good performances in their studies.

At the latter part of the meeting, the results of International Student Survey 2014 were announced. The survey was designed to provide information that would enhance the status and wellbeing of international students that was deemed to be crucial and necessary as it had covered different aspects such as safety, social needs, recreational pursuits, University experience and general Moscow experience. Among highlighted results was importance of improving practical skills of the students that was supported by 89.2% of respondents. At the same time students survey showed more positive university experience compared to negative experience.

Then the Dean described the current state of the University and outlined vectors of development of the University activities, being education and science. According to Prof. Glazachev, recommendations of international students are noticed and that University will follow up and provide corresponding measures and solutions in the nearest future.

The meeting was succeeded by Questions and Answers (Q&A) session, in which students were encouraged to ask questions to the Dean and provide recommendations to the University. Many questions were being discussed during the session and constructive explanations were also given by the Dean. Among the well-received answers included increment in the quantity of lecturers in the Department of Pharmacology as well as the allocation of international students to the new University hostel (under construction that is expected to be completed in the year of 2016). This concluded the session of the meeting.
