Sechenov’s international students team up for science and charity

Sechenov’s international students team up for science and charity The student society includes multiple nationalities and promotes intercultural exchange for a better experience at the University.

Sechenov has been welcoming students from all across the globe, and numerous nations are now represented within the University. With time, fellow countrymen and countrywomen have launched their national societies. Today, Sechenov University has an organisation, the International Student Society, that co-ordinates the activities of these student societies. Founded in March 2019, it supports foreign students and provides services in education, scientific research, charity events, sports tournaments, and more. Currently, thirty-one national societies exist at Sechenov and participate in the International Student Society.

The International Student Society consists of several departments that focus on a number of issues. For example, UnityScience, the scientific branch, has organised online English-language lectures for foreign students and released a series of webinars about the ‘Everyday Life of a Doctor’ on YouTube; UnityCulture manages events whose aim is to bring people from different nations together and facilitate cultural exchange; UnityTutoring is the organisation which chaperones non-Russian freshers at the start of their studies for better adaptation to the curriculum and local community; and UnityLaw advises international students and prospective applicants on the legal requirements and proceedings.

Last but not least, the International Student Society is heavily involved in charity events. Since its foundation, the UnityCharity department has run five fundraisers. At the beginning of October 2020, UnityCharity is to organise a charity auction where the participants will bid for the paintings created by Sechenov students. All the money gathered at the event will be donated for the treatment of a child with aplastic anaemia, a rare disease in which the body does not produce sufficient numbers of blood cells.
