On September 1, 2018 first year students, their parents,  academic staff members of Sechenov University and honorary guests gathered in Russia Сoncert Hall  for ceremony dedicated to the beginning of the academic year.

Prof. Petr V. Glybochko, Sechenov University’s rector, told about achievements and prospects for the University’s development: 
"Today Sechenov University is an advanced developing institution. Within the framework of the Academic Excellence Project we have opened Science & Technology Park for Biomedicine.The research institutes included in the Park will prepare "The Doctor of the Future". Medicine is an innovative industry, so we attract graduates who have got the highest exam scores. At our research institutes you will be able not only to study, but also to do research."

The guests of honor congratulated the students with the beginning of the academic year. Ms. Veronika Skvortsova, minister of healthcare of the Russian Federation, noted:
“Nowadays state tries to solve the most important problems of healthcare and life expectancy increase. First of all, we must be at the forefront of modern biomedical science. We need researchers, doctors who understand Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Bioinformatics and other modern technologies."

Dr. Tatyana Litvinova, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs, told about the results of the admission campaign- 2018. This year the University enrolled students at 5 faculties, 3 centers, 5 institutes, Sechenov University's international school "Medicine of the Future", and Baku branch. More than 800 first year students came from 36 regions of the Russian Federation. 

Traditionally there was also ceremony of passing from graduates-2018 to the first year students sculptural miniature called "From Heart to Heart,a symbol that represents continuity of kindness, development and comprehension of new knowledge. The ceremony was ended with a solemn promise of the first year students.
